At Weekend Dentistry we provide dental veneers to our patients for some cosmetic and restorative concerns. Some of our patients visit our San Antonio, TX, location looking to achieve a perfect smile, and some of our patients inquire about veneers after sustaining minor damage. Veneers could be the solution to achieving your desired grin, given that the structure and roots of your teeth are intact. Patients with other oral health concerns may need to treat these before we can complete the dental veneer process.
What Is a Dental Veneer?
A dental veneer is a thin piece of porcelain or composite resin that re-creates the look of real teeth. Veneers also provide a strong outer shell that mimics your natural enamel. S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC will match the veneer to your surrounding teeth or your desired shade of pearly white. Veneers are custom made to the specific size and contours of your teeth and bonded to your tooth’s original enamel over a few visits.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
Veneers can be used to close gaps; correct small misalignments cover cracks and chips. Veneers are also much less invasive than crowns or braces. Veneers don’t require surgery, so the time between the procedure and enjoying your new smile is significantly shortened. Many patients choose veneers to enhance the shade and brightness of their teeth, make teeth even in length, close gaps and generally create a more uniform, “perfect,” smile. Veneers are also made of stain resistant materials which means your brilliant new smile can last for years before they need to be replaced.
Placing Dental Veneers
Most patients can expect to start enjoying their new, veneer-enhanced smile in just two visits. If you opt for prefabricated veneers, it may only take one appointment at our San Antonio office. For optimum look and comfort, however, most patients choose to be fitted for custom veneers.
During your first appointment, S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC will thoroughly clean the intended tooth or teeth and choose the perfect shade of white for your veneer. We will then remove a very small amount of enamel from the tooth to better fit the veneer. Most patients don’t require anesthesia, but it is available depending on your sensitivity. We’ll take an impression of the tooth and fit you with a temporary veneer while the impression is sent away to our dental laboratory.
Once we’ve received your finished veneers from the laboratory, we’ll invite you back to receive your new smile. The tooth is cleaned again, and the veneer will be etched, cleaned, and treated with adhesive. S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC will place the veneer and cure it with light to make sure the veneer has bonded securely. We’ll remove any excess material and polish the margins, leaving you with a beautiful smile.
Following your veneer placement, we advise careful adherence to a good oral hygiene routine including flossing, brushing, and regular dental exams. We will typically schedule a follow-up appointment to check the comfort of your new dental veneers. Call us at (210) 783-0944 to schedule an appointment today!
