Emergency Care and Walk-Ins
Dealing with an emergency can be a frightening situation. Emergencies, including dental emergencies, can leave you unsure of what to do. Many individuals mistakenly think that they need to go straight to the emergency room. While this is true in some cases, many dental emergencies can be taken care of in the dental office. Weekend Dentistry is here to help with emergency care and walk-ins.
There are all kinds of dental emergencies that we can help you with. These types of emergencies include:
What if I Knock Out a Tooth?
If you knock out a tooth, it is sometimes possible to replant it. First, find the tooth. Pick it up by the crown and rinse it under water to clean away debris. Until you can get to the office, store the tooth in a jar of milk or salt water. Once you get to the office, we can examine your mouth and the tooth. If it can be replanted, we will place it back in the socket and secure it with a splint to stabilize it while your periodontal ligament and bone heal around it. If the tooth cannot be replanted, we will discuss your options for tooth replacement.
Taking Care at Home
There are things you can at home before you get to the office. The important thing is to remember to remain calm. If you have cracked or chipped a tooth or crown, rinse your mouth with warm water. For bleeding, place a piece of moistened gauze over the wound and apply gentle pressure. Pain can often be managed with an over the counter pain reliever. If you notice any swelling, apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to your face.
Can I Just Walk In?
We do accept walk-ins in our office for emergency care. All walk-ins are managed on a first come first serve basis. We understand that your emergency may be scary or painful. We will do our very best to get you seen as quickly as possible to stop your pain and restore the health of your mouth.
Should I Go to the ER?
While we can handle all kinds of dental emergencies in our office, preventing the need to go to the hospital, there are some situations in which you should head straight to the emergency room. If you are unsure, you can always call the office, and we can direct you if you should come to us or go to the ER. Reasons to go to the emergency room include:
