While even the healthiest teeth aren’t purely white, many of us feel we would be more confident with whiter teeth. Coffee, tea, red wines, and even blueberries can stain our smiles over time and leave you with duller than desired teeth. While there are over-the-counter whitening treatments available, these products are not as effective as what we can offer you at Weekend Dentistry. Store-bought methods may even harm your teeth and gums. You’re far more likely to be satisfied with a teeth whitening procedure provided by S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC. In-office treatments typically whiten your teeth by 5–10 shades in just one visit! We also offer dentist-dispensed kits which allow you to whiten your teeth at home and offer better results than an over-the-counter option.
Am I a Good Candidate for Teeth Whitening?
If you’re interested in whitening your teeth, be sure to ask S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC about your options at your next routine dental exam. Most patients are good candidates, but we may need to consider other treatments first if you have:
Depending on your oral health, whitening goals, and cost, we may recommend either a dentist-dispensed whitening kit or an in-office treatment.
If your teeth are in good health, we may agree that a dentist-dispensed take-home whitening kit is right for you. These kits are similar to what you might find in your local pharmacy, but they are much safer and more effective!
During your appointment, we’ll take an impression of your teeth to make a specialized mouthguard, also called a “stent.” This mouthguard will hold the whitening agent in place during your at-home treatment. You’ll apply the whitening agent and wear the stent for about 3–4 hours each night for a week or two. When this time is up, you’ll have significantly whiter teeth!
We’ll conduct a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, and support bone structure before deciding if in-office whitening is a safe and effective treatment for you.
If we agree on in-office whitening, you can expect to see brilliant results. During your visit, we’ll cover your lips and gums so only your teeth will be exposed to the treatment. This keeps them safe from some of the harsher components of the teeth whitening solution. Then, we’ll apply the professional-strength whitening gel to your teeth and expose them to a special light for about 15 minutes. The light helps the whitening gel penetrate your teeth and provide the brightest white possible. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable and invite you to watch TV or listen to music as the whitening gel goes to work. Depending on the desired whitening, we may reapply the gel and light.
In some cases of severely stained teeth, the best option for teeth whitening may be dental crowns or porcelain veneers, but S. Bin Kim, MS, DDS, PLLC will be sure to discuss this with you.
