What Is Fluoride?
Fluoride comes from fluorine, a naturally occurring substance that is found in the soil, water, rocks, and even some everyday foods. It is produced for use in toothpastes, mouthrinses, nutritional supplements, and drinking water.
Our dentists recommend regular fluoride applications as part of your preventive dental treatment. Fluoride can strengthen tooth enamel and reduce the frequency of cavities in children and adults. At our practice, we offer easy fluoride treatment with varnish.
How Does Fluoride Work?
Dentists have been recommending fluoride for decades, using it remineralize (rebuild) weak tooth enamel. Fluoride hardens the enamel and helps prevent tooth decay by resisting the harmful effects of natural sugars and acids in your mouth. It can also prevent the growth of oral bacteria and reverse early signs of cavities.
While children and their developing teeth benefit strongly from fluoride treatment, adults can receive fluoride to help keep their teeth cavity-free.
